Scholarships Announcements
The Department of Chemistry awards both undergraduate and graduate
scholarships at the end of each academic year. These awards are supported
by genereous donations by individuals and groups that support the
department and its mission. Award recipients are selected by a
departmental nomination process or by a scholarship committee based upon on
specific requirements and academic qualifications.
Ruth Watts Science Scholarship
One scholarship (with an anticipated value of $1,500) will be awarded for the
next academic year, to a woman majoring in science (preferably chemistry).
Eligibility criteria at time of application: 1) Female who is also a declared science major, 2) Completion of a minimum of two quarters at WWU,
and 3) Completion of the general chemistry sequence, CHEM 121-123 (or the equivalent).
Award criteria include academic merit and the ability to do advanced scientific research.
To apply, pick up an information/application packet from the Chemistry Department Office (CB 270).

the winter quarter.

Paul Woodring Scholarship, College of Arts & Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences awards one Paul Woodring Scholarship each academic year for $3,000 ($1,000 per quarter). The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who will be either a junior or senior during the academic year of the award and who
in the judgment of faculty members who know him/her, seems most likely to make substantial contributions to mankind as a result of his/her liberal education.
Each department nominates one student to compete for the scholarship. (The Chemistry Department's nomination, Julia Whitford, was awarded the Woodring Scholarship in its inaugural year, 1998-99.)

Chemistry Department Scholarships for Chemistry & Biochemistry Majors
The following scholarships are available:
- Knapman Chemistry Scholarship(s)
- Jerry Price/Nancy Sherer Scholarship
- Barabara French Duzan Scholarship
- Verna Alexander Price Scholarship
- Tuition Waiver Scholarship(s)
Eligibility criteria include: 1) Declared Chemistry or Biochemistry major, 2)
Completion of a minimum of two quarters at WWU, and 3) Enrollment in or completion of the organic lecture sequence,
CHEM 351-3 (or the equivalent), at time of application.
